jOrgan for Windows 10 - Full description

jOrgan is a configurable MIDI organ-console emulator for organists, composers and other musicians who want to control a virtual or MIDI-connected organ through a console layout suited to classical or theatre instruments. It reproduces the controls and playing workflow of a physical organ, while allowing the layout and available facilities to be tailored through disposition files. These files can define the number of manuals, stops and controls, making the program useful for both adapting sample consoles and building a custom arrangement.

The console can be operated with a mouse or touchscreen, or controlled by incoming MIDI messages from a keyboard or organ console. Multiple MIDI input and output ports support setups involving more than one device. Stops can be switched while playing, and stop tabs or knobs, swell controls, couplers and tremulants can be incorporated into the console. jOrgan also supports second touch and settable combination pistons, including both divisional and general pistons, for changing groups of registrations during performance.

Its organ-specific functions include unification, pipe-rank arrangement by chamber or division, individually unenclosed stops, and selective tremulant control. Melody and bass-line stops, transferable divisions, crescendo, effects controls and combination memory provide further options for shaping registrations and performance response. Console skins supply appearances and operating layouts associated with traditional classical and theatre organs; disposition files determine which controls and functions are available in each setup.

Musicians can use jOrgan to configure a MIDI console for practice, performance or experimentation with different organ layouts. Existing disposition files can be opened, modified or used as examples when creating a new console. The program's MIDI control and configurable combinations make it suitable for connecting physical keyboards to an organ setup, while on-screen controls allow a console to be operated directly from the computer.

jOrgan is free and open-source software for Windows, with Windows 10 support. It requires a Java runtime, along with the jOrgan application file and any skin files used by a console. Users setting it up can consult the included jOrgan Notes for installation, configuration and operating guidance. Older disposition files are supported, although soundfont patch-number changes may affect consoles that use the corg soundfonts.
