UDB Workbench is a database development environment for IBM DB2 UDB, intended for developers and database administrators who need to work with SQL, inspect schemas, and compare database contents. It combines an SQL editor, query tools, schema management, and comparison features in one Windows application. Schemas can be loaded from a database or from files, allowing work with stored database definitions as well as schema files.
The SQL editor provides code completion and syntax highlighting to help write and review statements. Formatting tools make SQL easier to read, while code folding helps manage longer scripts. Multiple levels of undo and redo, drag-and-drop editing, and column-mode editing support different editing workflows. Scripts can be executed within the application, and DDL statements update the loaded schema automatically after execution.
For query work, the integrated tool displays results that can be searched, filtered, grouped, and edited. Results can be exported to an Excel spreadsheet or converted into a set of SQL statements. These options support reviewing data, preparing output for further analysis, or reusing query results in database scripts.
UDB Workbench also includes comparison tools for database schemas and data. After identifying differences, it can generate a synchronization script for bringing database schemas into alignment. Schema packaging features cover both schema definitions and database content, making the program useful for development tasks that involve reviewing, transferring, or synchronizing DB2 environments.
The software is trialware and is designed specifically for IBM DB2 UDB database work. Its supported operating systems include Windows 10 and Windows 11, as well as earlier Windows releases. The editor and comparison tools are suited to users who regularly write SQL or maintain DB2 schemas; it is not a general-purpose database client for unrelated database systems.
