Ventrilo for Windows 10 - Full description

Ventrilo is a client-server voice communication program for groups that need to talk while gaming, working together online or coordinating shared activities. Participants connect to a server and can join channels for different conversations. Its straightforward interface keeps common controls close at hand, while configurable audio options let each person tailor how other users and server events sound.

Voice transmission can use push-to-talk or voice activation, and the client supports multiple users and server connections. Channels can be created dynamically, organized with subchannels, muted or queued, and configured with participant limits, transmission time limits and feature filters. Administrators can restrict who is allowed to transmit through channel rankings, use password-protected server or channel access, and configure separate channel administration passwords. Cross-channel communication and phantom users, which listen in without transmitting, support groups that need to coordinate across different rooms.

For conversations outside the main voice channel, Ventrilo provides private voice and text exchanges, plus built-in text chat for a server or an individual channel. Users can share comments and hyperlinks, while key bindings trigger program actions, mute the microphone or sound, play wave files and send text-to-speech messages. Text-to-speech can announce events and read names, with separate phonetic spellings available to improve pronunciation. Users can adjust sound effects and apply them at user, channel, server or global level; surround positioning and persistent mute and audio settings help shape the listening experience. Voice streams can also be recorded and played back.

Connection tools include a built-in server browser, named server profiles, and support for Internet SRV records, so users can connect without keeping IP addresses and port numbers to hand. The client can also display and administer current server users and persistent server settings remotely. These controls suit gaming groups, online communities and teams that want separate channels, private conversations and administrative rules in one voice client.

Ventrilo is freeware and uses encrypted client-server connections. Text chats and audio recordings are stored locally on the client computer, and the program does not collect or store user data. Server access depends on a Ventrilo server; the software can connect to multiple servers. Its low CPU use and configurable audio controls are useful when voice communication needs to run alongside other applications.
