ViStart for Windows 10 - Full description
ViStart is a Start menu replacement that brings a searchable launcher to Windows desktops. It is intended for people who want to find programs and files from one menu rather than browse through folders or rely on the standard Start menu. Its search is based on an index of program shortcuts and personal files, so matching results appear as the user types.
For launching software, ViStart searches indexed shortcuts by the text entered in the menu. Typing part of an application's name can surface it without navigating through nested menus. The same approach applies to indexed files: users can enter a filename or part of one to locate documents and other personal files. This makes the menu useful both as an application launcher and as a quick way to search local content.
The interface includes a Windows Vista-style skin, with menu icons that fade as the pointer moves across options. ViStart also supports third-party skins, allowing the appearance to be changed beyond the included design. The program supports several languages, including English, Japanese, German, French, Italian, Russian, Korean, Chinese and Dutch.
ViStart may suit users who prefer a classic Start menu layout, want keyboard-driven access to programs, or need a simple search point for applications and personal files. Its indexed results are most useful when the relevant shortcuts and files are available to the program's search index; it does not replace the applications used to open those files.
The software is freeware and is offered for Windows, including Windows 10 and Windows 11, as well as earlier releases. The available feature information focuses on its menu, indexing, skins and language support; it does not establish broader system-management or file-editing functions.
