Faronics Data Igloo is a utility for computers protected by Deep Freeze. It lets administrators keep selected folders or existing user profiles across restarts while leaving the operating system partition protected. This is useful in shared workstations, labs and other managed environments where Deep Freeze restores the system partition to its configured state after a restart, but users still need their files and settings to persist.
Data Igloo redirects selected data from its original location to a Thawed partition or Deep Freeze ThawSpace. Administrators choose the source folder or profile and a destination, then use the program to move the existing data. The redirected location remains accessible through the usual paths, so users can continue working with their files without changing their normal workflow. New files and subsequent changes are also stored in the designated writable location.
The program's point-and-click interface handles the redirection process without requiring administrators to create NTFS junction points manually. By keeping retained data on a thawed area and the operating system on the frozen partition, it separates user data from the protected Windows installation. This can preserve documents, personal settings and other selected profile contents through routine restarts, while allowing the machine's system state to remain under Deep Freeze protection.
Data Igloo Standard is intended for managing existing user profiles and folders on individual computers; it does not support enterprise environments. It is most appropriate where Deep Freeze is already in use and a small set of user data needs to persist without thawing the protected system partition. The software is freeware and requires Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 with Service Pack 1 or later. Its stated operating system support includes Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 10; Windows 11 support is not established.
