EQAlign helps astronomers align a German equatorial mount's polar axis with Earth's rotation axis using the Scheiner method. It also measures periodic tracking error, offers autoguiding to correct mount movement, and provides a PC GoTo system for locating planets, comets and asteroids. Observers can plan sessions in a journal and add object notes. The open-source program supports modified long-exposure webcams, CCD and CMOS cameras.

EQAlign is astronomy software for observers who use a German equatorial mount (GEM). Its central task is helping align the mount's polar axis with Earth's rotation axis, a setup step that reduces tracking errors during observation and astrophotography. The program uses the Scheiner method, which relies on observations of a star to identify and correct alignment error.
The software also measures and analyzes a mount's periodic error, the recurring tracking deviation caused by imperfections in its drive system. Users can examine this behavior to understand how accurately a mount tracks over time. EQAlign includes autoguiding, which monitors a guide star and sends corrections to the mount. This can reduce the effects of periodic error and polar misalignment, supporting longer-exposure astrophotography.
EQAlign provides a PC-based GoTo system for locating celestial objects. It calculates current coordinates and other data, including magnitude and distance, for planets, comets and asteroids using their orbital elements. Observers can choose targets from the object database and prepare an observing journal, adding personal comments to record notes about selected objects and sessions.
The program supports several camera types, including modified webcams capable of long exposures as well as CCD and CMOS cameras. These imaging devices can be used as part of alignment, guiding and mount-analysis workflows. Combining these functions in one application lets astronomers move from polar alignment to tracking tests, guiding and target planning without relying on separate tools for every task.
EQAlign is free, open-source software released under the GNU General Public License version 2, with source code available through a Subversion repository. It is intended for Windows and has support listed for Windows versions through Windows 10. Camera and mount equipment must be compatible with the program's supported interfaces for imaging and control; the precise setup depends on the connected hardware.
