FET for Windows 10 - Full description
FET is an open-source timetable generator for schools and other educational institutions. It helps administrators organize teaching activities into schedules for teachers and students, using information about the institution, its working days and hours, staff, and student groups. Its automatic generator can build a timetable from these inputs, while semi-automatic and manual allocation options give users more direct control over scheduling.
Scheduling begins by entering the institution’s structure and requirements. Users can define teachers and their activities, then organize students into years, groups, and subgroups. The student model supports overlapping years and groups, non-overlapping subgroups, and individual students represented as separate sets. This flexibility lets a school describe its own organization before assigning activities to time slots.
FET uses constraints to express scheduling requirements, with a weight percentage available for each constraint from 0% to 100%; some special constraints only support a 100% weight. The generator uses the entered requirements to create schedules, and users can also place activities themselves or combine manual work with automatic generation. Input data can be exchanged through CSV or stored in a modular XML format, which can also be edited with an XML editor or by hand. Completed timetables can be exported as HTML, XML, or CSV for viewing and further use.
The program is suited to school staff who need to prepare schedules for multiple teachers, classes, and student groups, including institutions with more complex year and subgroup structures. Its multilingual interface includes English and a range of other languages, with some translations incomplete. FET is available for Windows 10 and Windows 11, as well as older Windows releases, and its Qt-based implementation also supports other platforms. It is open source and can be used portably; it does not add entries to the Windows Registry, and removal leaves no program files behind on the hard drive.
