Portable MicroDicom x64 is a freeware viewer and basic processing tool for medical images stored in DICOM format. It is intended for healthcare professionals, students and others who need to open and review imaging studies on a Windows computer. Its portable form is useful when images need to be viewed from removable media or on a computer where installing software is inconvenient.
The program opens individual DICOM images as well as DICOM directory files. When a directory contains a DICOMDIR index, MicroDicom can show its patient list and let users browse images grouped by study or examination. Images can be loaded by dragging and dropping them into the application or by double-clicking them in a file browser. It can also open common graphic formats, including JPEG, BMP and GIF, making it possible to view those files alongside medical images.
Viewing controls include zooming and panning to inspect different parts of an image, plus brightness and contrast adjustments to change its on-screen appearance. The application provides medical image processing operations and displays the DICOM attributes associated with the selected image. These attributes offer access to the information stored with the image, while study and examination navigation helps users move through collections without opening each file separately.
MicroDicom can save images in DICOM format and convert them to common picture formats, AVI video or the clipboard for use in other applications. Its support for patient CD and DVD media allows images to be viewed without installing the program, which can help with portable review and sharing. It is a viewing and image-handling utility; its display and adjustment tools do not replace clinical interpretation or specialized diagnostic systems.
The x64 edition is designed for 64-bit Windows and is identified for Windows 10 and Windows 11, as well as several earlier Windows releases. MicroDicom is offered as freeware. Its portable operation makes it suited to occasional viewing, educational use and workflows that involve opening DICOM files from discs, folders or other removable storage.
