Portable Universal Viewer is a file-viewing utility for people who need to inspect different kinds of files without opening a separate application for each format. It brings text, image, multimedia and web-related viewing into one interface, with additional support for formats handled by Total Commander Lister plugins. Its portable edition is suited to keeping the viewer available without a conventional installation, such as from a removable drive or a folder used for utilities.
Text mode displays plain text and Unicode content, while RTF/UTF-8 mode is intended for rich-text documents and UTF-8 encoded files. For files that need closer inspection, binary and hexadecimal modes show their underlying data rather than interpreting it as ordinary prose. These modes can handle files of very large size, including files up to 4 GB, making the program useful for examining logs, data files or unfamiliar file contents. The appropriate mode can be selected according to whether the goal is to read text or inspect bytes.
Image mode opens common graphics formats such as BMP, JPG, GIF, PNG, TGA and TIFF.
