Samba Professional is a freeware catalog manager for keeping track of software, documents, movies, music and other files stored on disks and hard drives. It is intended for people who want an organized record of a collection, including items that are not currently connected to the computer. Its database approach makes it possible to group entries into separate catalogs and maintain different collections for multiple users.
Collections can be divided into categories such as documents, games, multimedia, music, operating systems, programs and video clips. Software entries can be imported by name or file extension, helping build an inventory without entering every item manually. For music collections, users can record album and track information for MP3s. Custom lists provide another way to organize selected items within each user's catalog.
The catalog can also support retrieving files for use. Users can select items recorded in the database to create a software disk: Samba Professional copies the selected files to the hard drive and can burn them to CD.
