A-PDF Split is a desktop utility for dividing PDF documents into smaller files or extracting selected pages. It is suited to people who need to break up long documents for sharing, filing, review or reuse without opening them in a full PDF editor. The standalone program does not require Adobe Acrobat or Reader, and its output is compatible with Adobe Acrobat Reader 5 and later.
The program offers several ways to split a document. Users can create a new file after every chosen number of pages, divide a PDF at its bookmarks, or separate odd and even pages. Page ranges can also be extracted into a new PDF, while unwanted pages can be removed. These options cover common tasks such as creating chapter files from a bookmarked report, separating batches of scanned pages, or keeping only the pages needed for a particular recipient.
For recurring or more specific jobs, A-PDF Split includes advanced split settings that can be saved and loaded again. This makes a chosen set of splitting rules reusable across similar documents. Output filenames can be generated with a naming pattern, helping distinguish the resulting files and keep batches organized. The application also supports drag-and-drop and right-click integration in Windows, providing alternative ways to send a PDF into a splitting workflow.
Password-protected PDFs are supported: owner-protected documents can be processed, and user-protected files require the password to be entered. Split output files can have security settings applied, and their document properties, such as author and subject, can be set. The resulting PDFs can later be combined with other documents using a separate PDF merging utility, if a new composite file is needed.
A-PDF Split is offered as demo software and is designed for Windows desktop use. Its focused interface is intended for direct file-splitting tasks rather than general PDF editing. It can be useful for organizing large manuals, reports, forms and scanned documents, or preparing smaller, purpose-specific files from a larger PDF.
