AutoScreenShot is a lightweight screen-capture utility that periodically saves images of a computer's display. It is intended for people who need a visual record of activity on a computer, such as checking a workstation's status while away or monitoring a device with the knowledge and permission of its users. Rather than requiring someone to take each image manually, it captures the screen automatically at a chosen interval and stores the resulting files for later review.
The capture interval is configurable in seconds, with one screenshot per minute as the default. This allows the image log to be adjusted to the task: a shorter interval records more frequent changes, while a longer one creates fewer files. Images are saved to a designated folder, which can be changed from the default Files subfolder. Choosing a different local drive helps keep captures separate from the application, and a mapped network share can be used to save them to another computer for remote access.
To manage storage, AutoScreenShot can automatically remove older images after the saved collection reaches a configured limit. Image options include compression and fixed width or height, useful for reducing file size or keeping captures at a consistent resolution. These settings are adjusted through the options.ini configuration file, rather than a described in-app settings interface. The output folder can be shared so authorized users can consult the images remotely.
The utility can also be configured for computers with multiple user sessions. Its per-user selection settings determine which accounts are included in capture activity. This makes it possible to limit recording to selected sessions instead of applying the same behavior to every account. Together, interval, folder, retention, image-size and account controls provide a simple way to tailor an ongoing screenshot log to a particular computer and storage setup.
AutoScreenShot is freeware for Windows, with the supplied operating-system information covering Windows XP through Windows 10, including 64-bit editions where indicated. The program's small download and file-based configuration suit basic unattended capture tasks, but saved screenshots may contain sensitive information. Administrators should configure access to the image folder appropriately and ensure monitoring complies with applicable rules and user expectations.
