Blue Cat's Widening Parametr'EQ is a seven-band parametric equalizer plug-in for shaping the stereo image as well as tonal balance. It is intended for audio producers and engineers who want to make frequency-dependent adjustments to the center and sides of a stereo signal, rather than applying the same equalization across the whole mix. Its Mid-Side design also supports conventional EQ work at a chosen position in the stereo field, from narrow corrective changes to broader stereo widening or narrowing.
The plug-in provides separate equalizers for the mid and side channels, with a real-time frequency-response display that helps show how each band affects the signal. A center control shifts the virtual Mid-Side position, allowing equalization to focus at a chosen point in the stereo field. Each of the seven bands offers a range of up to 40 dB, with a customizable effective range; automatic gain compensation helps keep level changes manageable while adjusting the curve. The filter designs are modeled on analog circuits, and non-linear processing can add warmth or distortion at individual EQ stages.
