Cubase Elements is a digital audio workstation for songwriters, musicians and home-studio producers who want to record, arrange and mix music on a Windows computer. It combines audio and MIDI production in one project, with tools for capturing performances, editing parts, shaping arrangements and preparing scores. Its workflow uses the same general Cubase technology platform as Steinberg's larger Cubase products, while concentrating on a streamlined set of production tools.
Audio and MIDI tracks let users record instruments and vocals, program parts and edit performances within a shared timeline. Editing tools help refine timing and musical material, while the score editor presents MIDI arrangements as notation for review and further work. A chord track and chord pads support composing and managing progressions: users can build chord sequences and use them as a basis for developing parts. MIDI construction loops and presets provide ready-made musical material to adapt during songwriting.
The included instruments cover several common production roles. HALion Sonic SE provides a workstation-style instrument for creating parts, Groove Agent SE supplies drum-machine functions for building rhythms, and Prologue is a synthesizer for designed sounds. For processing, Cubase Elements includes audio effects such as Pitch Correct for adjusting vocal intonation, MorphFilter for filter-based sound shaping and VST Amp Rack for guitar tones. These instruments and processors can be used within a project rather than requiring a separate application for each task.
MixConsole brings track levels, routing and mixing controls into a console-style workspace. Its channel strip includes EQ and dynamics modules, allowing users to shape tone and control signal levels as they balance a mix. Flexible routing supports directing audio through the project, and automatic delay compensation helps keep signals aligned when processing introduces latency.
