MagiWOL 3.61

Wake computers remotely over a local network

MagiWOL is a Windows utility for waking one or more computers over a local network using Wake-on-LAN. It sends the network request needed to start a compatible machine, provided Wake-on-LAN is enabled and its adapter can receive packets while powered down or asleep. SecureOn support adds an optional password component where the target hardware and configuration allow it. The program is freeware and requires .NET Framework 4.

MagiWOL for Windows 10 - Full description

MagiWOL is a small Wake-on-LAN utility for waking one or more computers across a local network. It is intended for users who want to start a computer remotely rather than reach its power button. The target machine must support Wake-on-LAN, and the feature must be enabled in its firmware or network settings; the utility cannot wake a machine whose hardware or configuration does not permit it.

Wake-on-LAN works by sending a specially formed network message, commonly called a magic packet, to the sleeping or powered-off computer. MagiWOL provides a way to send this wake request over the LAN. This is useful when a desktop is kept out of the way, when a computer is needed only occasionally, or when someone is preparing a machine for remote access. The computer's network adapter must remain able to receive the packet while the system is off or asleep, and the network must allow the message to reach it.

The program also supports SecureOn, an optional Wake-on-LAN security feature. Where the target adapter and its configuration support SecureOn, this adds a password component to the wake request. It is a supplementary measure rather than a replacement for securing the network or configuring the target computer correctly. Standard Wake-on-LAN remains dependent on the target's firmware, adapter, power state and network setup.

MagiWOL can be used in homes or small offices to bring machines online for maintenance, file access or other tasks without visiting each computer. Its focus is specifically waking systems over a LAN, rather than general remote desktop control or computer management. After a machine starts, users still need a separate method to sign in or access it remotely.

MagiWOL is freeware and requires .NET Framework 4. It was made for Windows, with support listed for Windows XP through Windows 10; compatibility with other releases should be checked before installation. The utility is compact, but successful use depends more on correct Wake-on-LAN settings and network reachability than on the application alone.
