Steganos Internet Anonym VPN for Windows 10 - Full description
Steganos Internet Anonym VPN is a virtual private network client for people who want to protect internet traffic on public Wi-Fi and reduce the exposure of their real IP address while browsing. It routes a computer's connection through a Steganos server, creating an encrypted link between the device and that server. This can help protect data from interception on shared wireless networks and makes the server's IP address visible to websites instead of the user's own address.
The program creates a 128-bit SSL-encrypted tunnel for internet traffic. This is intended for use on open or shared Wi-Fi in places such as hotels, cafés and airports, where other people on the same network may be able to monitor unprotected connections. Once connected, web traffic passes through the VPN server, helping shield it from local network snooping. The changed outward-facing IP address also limits the direct association between browsing activity and the user's internet connection, though a VPN does not prevent every form of online tracking.
Internet Anonym VPN also supports authorized peer-to-peer file sharing through the VPN connection. Its one-click connection approach is aimed at users who prefer a straightforward way to enable the tunnel rather than configure network settings manually. A setup assistant guides installation and configuration, while a visual meter shows connection time and usage. The prepaid system and usage display help users keep track of consumption and stay within chosen limits.
The software is suited to people who regularly use public wireless networks, want an encrypted route for everyday browsing, or need a VPN connection for permitted peer-to-peer transfers. It can be used as a privacy layer for shopping, work and general web access, but it does not make users completely anonymous or replace safe browsing practices. Websites may still use cookies, account logins and other methods to recognize visitors.
Steganos Internet Anonym VPN is trialware from Steganos GmbH and supports English, Spanish, German, French and Dutch. Its stated Windows support includes Windows 7 and Windows 8, including 64-bit editions, as well as Windows 10 and Windows 10 x64. The available product information does not establish support for newer Windows releases.
