Vir.IT eXplorer Lite is a free antivirus and antispyware utility for Windows PCs. It is intended for users who need to scan a computer and remove common malware, including viruses, worms, Trojans, backdoors, spyware, adware and hijackers. Its scanning engine is also designed to detect some newer threats that have not yet been analysed by antivirus researchers.
The scanner can check files and clean infections across several malware categories, including dialers and browser helper objects (BHOs). It can also scan and clean alternate data streams (ADS), a way of attaching data to files on certain Windows file systems. These tools make the program useful for investigating unwanted software that may not be limited to ordinary program files.
For ongoing monitoring, Vir.IT eXplorer Lite includes a real-time intrusion detection system. Automatic internet updates help keep its detection information current. A process manager provides a view of running processes, while the startup-program list can be sorted by date to help identify recently added entries. The program also includes a tool to repair Internet Explorer settings.
