Xtreme Media Player for Windows 10 - Full description

Xtreme Media Player is an open-source music player and audio visualizer written in Java. It is intended for listeners who want to organize playlists, play local audio files or music streams, and view graphics that respond to the sound. Despite its name, its implemented playback functions focus on music rather than video. The interface brings playback controls, a playlist manager and visualization options together in a desktop application.

The player supports a broad range of audio formats, including MP3, AAC, M4A, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, Speex, WAV, AIFF and AU. It can also open playlists in XSPF, M3U and PLS formats, which makes it practical to move collections between compatible players. For streamed listening, it can play music from URLs, including Shoutcast radio, and can retrieve the current track title from supported Shoutcast streams.

Playback controls include play, pause, stop, previous and next, with volume adjustment and repeat options for a track or playlist. Shuffle provides an alternative to ordered playback. The playlist manager supports drag and drop, while audio tags can provide information such as title, artist, album, genre, track number, year and comments. Keyboard shortcuts offer another way to control playback, and Windows users can interact with Microsoft IntelliType commands.

A central feature is its collection of audio-driven visualizations. Options range from spectrum displays, spectrograms and waveform views to oscilloscopes, a piano roll, stereograph and volume meter. These visuals can make listening more engaging, while technical displays such as the spectrum, spectrogram and oscilloscope can help users observe characteristics of a sound. The interface is skinnable and supports English, French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. An automatic updater can check at startup or when requested.

Xtreme Media Player is free and open source. Its modular Java design separates components such as audio playback, playlist management, audio analysis and visualizations, which can also be used as external libraries in other projects. The program is a fit for people seeking a desktop audio player with playlist, streaming and visualization tools; it should not be chosen as a general-purpose video player. Java-based and cross-platform, it is available for Windows systems including Windows 10.
