Double Pipe Heat Exchanger Design for Windows 10 - Full description
Double Pipe Heat Exchanger Design is an engineering application for sizing and analysing bare-tube and finned-tube double-pipe, or hairpin, heat exchangers. It is intended for engineers and designers who need to evaluate heat transfer, flow conditions and pressure losses for hot and cold fluid streams. Calculations can use SI or U.S. customary units, and the software supports counter-current and co-current flow as well as series and series-parallel arrangements.
The thermal analysis covers duty, clean and design overall heat-transfer coefficients, log mean temperature difference, heat-transfer area, flow area and exchanger length. It can determine the number of hairpins, scale resistance and equivalent diameter, and can solve for an unknown temperature or flow rate. Users can assign each fluid to the inner pipe or outer annulus, or have the program allocate the hot and cold sides automatically. For heat-transfer calculations, it offers selectable correlations for each side, allows adjustment of the Nusselt number, and supports user-defined Nusselt correlations.
Results include pipe- and annulus-side Reynolds, Nusselt and Prandtl numbers, along with fluid velocities, mass velocities, number of transfer units and thermal capacity ratio. The program also calculates pressure drop and entrance and exit losses. For finned-tube designs, it evaluates clean and fouled fin efficiency. These outputs help compare configurations and assess how flow arrangement, geometry and fouling affect exchanger performance.
Fluid data can be entered for the hot and cold sides or imported from Microsoft Excel. An included property database estimates density, heat capacity, viscosity and thermal conductivity for more than 1,450 pure components and can estimate mixture properties. The application also includes a database of 500 fluids, fouling-factor data and functions for maintaining a user database of fluids. A unit converter handles 23 measurement types and more than 200 unit conversions. Engineering datasheets can be exported to Excel for reporting or further work.
The software is distributed as a demo and runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11, as well as several earlier Windows editions. Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 is required. Its separate property-estimation interface can be used alongside the exchanger design calculations, making the package useful for preliminary sizing, thermal checks and documenting design results.
