FastStone MaxView for Windows 10 - Full description
FastStone MaxView is a compact image viewer for people who want to inspect, organize and make quick changes to pictures without opening a full-featured image editor. It supports common picture formats as well as camera RAW files, and can open images directly from ZIP, RAR and 7-Zip archives, including password-protected archives. Its interface hides menus and toolbars automatically, leaving more screen space for the image when browsing or working in full-screen mode.
Images can be viewed at different zoom levels, with a customizable magnifier for checking fine details. MaxView displays image information such as EXIF metadata, and its slideshow mode presents folders with more than 150 transition effects and optional background music. Touch gestures, mouse-wheel controls and keyboard shortcuts provide alternate ways to navigate and zoom, while hotkeys can also handle common file tasks such as copying, moving, renaming and deleting images.
For quick edits, the program can rotate, resize and crop pictures, with lossless rotation and cropping available for JPEG files. Annotation tools add text, arrowed lines and highlights, and undo and redo help manage changes. Images can be printed, set as the Windows desktop wallpaper or passed to an external editor with a keyboard shortcut. MaxView can also acquire images from cameras and scanners, making it useful for reviewing new captures as well as browsing an existing collection.
Archive and comic-book support broadens its use beyond ordinary folders: it can read ZIP, RAR and 7-Zip files, including archives using 128-bit or 256-bit AES encryption, and open CBR, CBZ and CB7 comic files. Supported formats include JPEG, JPEG 2000, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, WebP and HEIC, among others; it can also save images in several common formats. RAW support covers formats used by a range of camera manufacturers, including ARW, CR2, DNG, NEF, ORF, RAF and RW2.
FastStone MaxView is trialware for Windows, with support listed for Windows 10 and Windows 11 as well as earlier Windows releases. Its focus is fast viewing and practical image handling rather than an extensive editing workflow, so it suits users who need a lightweight tool for inspecting, sorting, annotating and printing pictures, or viewing images stored inside archives.
