MyPublicIP is a small Windows utility for checking the public IP address assigned to an internet connection. It is intended for people who need to identify the address visible to websites and other services, without opening a browser or searching through network settings. An internet connection is required for it to retrieve the address.
After starting, MyPublicIP stays available as an icon in the system tray near the clock. Moving the mouse pointer over the icon displays the public IP, making it possible to check the address without opening the main window. Clicking the icon opens that window for a more direct view.
The utility is designed for quick, occasional checks rather than detailed network diagnostics. A public IP can be useful when configuring remote access, checking what address a service sees, or sharing connection details with a support technician. It is distinct from a local address used by devices within a home or office network; MyPublicIP focuses on the internet-facing address.
MyPublicIP remains active in the tray until its Close command is used. This lets it stay on hand while the computer is in use, while still allowing the user to exit when it is no longer needed. The program is freeware and is intended for Windows systems, including Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10. Its compact interface and single-purpose design suit users who want a straightforward way to view their current public IP.
