ThreatSentry x64 is host intrusion prevention software for administrators responsible for securing Microsoft IIS web servers. It monitors incoming server requests and compares their behavior with a threat knowledgebase and an evolving baseline of normal activity. This approach is intended to identify suspicious requests as well as attacks that may not match a conventional signature, helping protect web applications and the systems behind them.
Its IIS web application firewall and behavior-based detection engine analyze traffic for techniques such as directory traversal, parameter manipulation, buffer overflows, parser evasion and shellcode. Administrators can configure responses to detected activity, including generating alerts or blocking an IP address. The integrated firewall can also block network ports for addresses on its blocked list, extending protection beyond the web request itself.
ThreatSentry runs as an IIS ISAPI filter and integrates with Microsoft Management Console for configuration and administration. Security alerts and training events can be reviewed, sorted, managed and exported. Reclassified events can be tracked for audit purposes, while alert notifications can be sent by email, text message or cellular phone. These tools support investigation of suspicious activity and help maintain a record of security events.
The software is intended to protect IIS-hosted applications and related server resources, including databases and platforms such as ASP.NET, ColdFusion, Java, Perl, PHP, Python and Ruby.
