Aegisub 64-bit for Windows 10 - Full description

Aegisub is a free, open-source editor for creating and refining SubStation Alpha subtitles, especially advanced SSA and ASS scripts. It is suited to subtitle editors who need precise control over dialogue timing, styling and typesetting, as well as users working with simpler formats such as SRT. Its interface combines standard editing controls with specialized tools for matching subtitles to audio and video.

The subtitle editor supports ASS, SSA, SRT and plain-text files, including text files with actor data. It can convert SRT tags to ASS and provides multiple undo levels, making it easier to revise formatting and timing without losing earlier work. Unicode support covers several encodings, while import options for more than 30 non-Unicode character sets help preserve text from files created under different system locales. Syntax highlighting makes subtitle tags easier to distinguish while editing scripts.

For timing and review, Aegisub can open video through Avisynth and display a preview using VSFilter, with video formats available through DirectShow. Editors can work with variable-frame-rate footage using timecode files, and export processed times for hard-subtitling workflows. The video view shows coordinates beneath the mouse and offers basic automatic positioning. Audio mode accepts formats that the installed DirectShow filters can decode, including common formats such as WAV, MP3, Ogg Vorbis, AAC and AC-3; audio waveforms help users align subtitle lines with spoken dialogue.

The Automation module uses Lua scripts to automate subtitle manipulation and create karaoke effects, including effects applied syllable by syllable. A fonts collector gathers the fonts referenced by a script into a folder, which is useful when sharing a styled subtitle project or preparing it for another system. Aspect-ratio override controls also help when previewing anamorphic video.

Aegisub is a desktop tool for Windows, with this 64-bit edition intended for compatible 64-bit Windows systems. Video preview depends on the relevant Avisynth, VSFilter and DirectShow components, and the audio formats available depend on installed DirectShow decoders. Its combination of file conversion, timing, styling and scripting tools serves both routine subtitle editing and more detailed ASS typesetting work.
