FastPictureViewer is a lightweight image viewer and photo-culling tool for photographers who need to review large folders quickly and sort useful images from a shoot. Its uncluttered interface keeps attention on the photo, while keyboard, mouse-click and wheel controls move through images with minimal interruption. It can browse deeply nested subfolders as one continuous sequence, making it practical to scan a project or drive without opening each folder separately.
The viewer offers fit-to-window and 100% display modes, instant zooming and a configurable magnifier for checking focus and fine detail. Full ICC color management supports profiled monitors, and optional high-quality scaling helps keep resized previews clear. Floating windows can show camera shooting information, including shutter speed, aperture, ISO and exposure compensation, alongside an RGB histogram for assessing exposure and color distribution.
FastPictureViewer supports common formats such as JPEG, TIFF, PNG, GIF, BMP, ICO and HD Photo. It can also preview camera raw files including NEF, CR2, RW2, ORF and DNG when a compatible manufacturer-supplied or third-party decoder is installed. Ratings and labels can be saved in Adobe XMP sidecar files; JPEG files also support embedded XMP and Windows photo ratings. These tools let photographers mark images during review and retain that information for compatible image-management workflows.
Culling actions are designed to keep the review moving: selected photos can be copied to a preset folder in the background, while copy, move and delete commands are available during browsing. Dragging files or folders into the viewer opens them for review, and shell context-menu integration provides a direct way to open folders and drives. The program can detect newly added images in the folder tree, browse inserted media or connected cameras, and use MTP/PTP tethering with compatible cameras. A built-in program launcher and borderless fullscreen mode, including support for multiple monitors, round out the workflow.
FastPictureViewer is freeware for 64-bit Windows. The supplied operating-system information includes Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 10, with 64-bit support indicated for Vista through Windows 10; Windows 11 compatibility is not established here. Raw-image previews depend on an available decoder, and camera tethering depends on MTP/PTP support. These practical requirements matter when setting up the viewer for a particular camera or raw format.
