Searches run when requested rather than maintaining an index, so the program does not reserve disk space for one or use resources to keep one updated.
File-name searches offer Simple, Similarity, Wildcards and Wildcards Expressions modes. Users can include or exclude multiple locations through a multi-folder search setup, then narrow results by criteria such as modified date, size, attributes, folder or filename length, path depth and file owner. For content searches, it can look for words or phrases inside plain-text files and encoded documents through IFilters or text filters. These options help distinguish a particular document from other files with similar names or identify files matching a combination of location and property rules.
Results can be sorted by column and displayed with Windows Explorer-style icons and context menus. From the results window, users can open an item or its containing folder and perform file-management tasks such as cutting, copying, moving, deleting or renaming files.
