NixThis for Windows 10 - Full description
NixThis is an open-source system maintenance utility for Windows users who want to block or remove selected Windows interface elements and preinstalled applications. It is developed by Builtbybel, runs on Windows 11 and 64-bit Windows 10, and is available as a portable, setup-free application in version 0.41.3.
NixThis uses a picker displayed in its main window. Users can point to an on-screen item, application, or window to inspect the elements found there. The interface shows the number of active filters and details about the discovered items. Users can request that a selected element be blocked or removed and can open information about its feature or function. An AI assistant can optionally be connected with an API key for further explanations.
NixThis applies changes by modifying recognized Windows registry values instead of using optimization scripts. It can also remove preinstalled applications through PowerShell while leaving essential applications such as Windows App Installer, runtimes, and the Windows Store untouched.
Elements previously identified include Edge sign-in prompts, default-browser prompts, welcome and feedback pages, sidebar and shopping suggestions, collections, game panels, and quick links. In the Windows taskbar, identified elements have included Task View, search, Widgets, chat, news and notifications, and Meet Now.
Recognition is limited because Windows can add features, rename them, or move interface elements. NixThis therefore cannot guarantee that every current or future Windows element will be detected or blocked.
