Mount remote folders as Windows drives

Pier mounts WebDAV, SFTP and NFSv3 locations as Windows drive letters, so remote folders can be used in File Explorer, Office, backup tools and scripts. It supports services such as Nextcloud, ownCloud, Synology and QNAP, and offers password or OpenSSH key authentication for SFTP. Block-based caching avoids repeated downloads, while interrupted transfers can resume after a connection returns. The Windows service keeps drives available across reboots; a tray icon and command-line interface manage them.

Pier for Windows 10 - Full description

Pier mounts remote folders as drive letters in Windows, making network and cloud storage accessible through File Explorer and ordinary desktop applications. It is intended for people who need to work with files on a WebDAV, SFTP or NFS server without handling transfers through a separate client. Once mounted, a remote location can be used by tools such as Office, backup software and scripts in much the same way as a local disk.

The program supports WebDAV services including Nextcloud, ownCloud, Synology and QNAP, as well as WebDAV servers running on Apache or IIS. A WebDAV location can be added using its address and password; Nextcloud users can use the WebDAV link provided in their account settings. SFTP connections work with SSH servers and support either passwords or OpenSSH keys. Pier also mounts NFSv3 shares. Before mounting, it checks server capabilities such as writing, renaming, timestamp handling, case sensitivity and transfer resumption, then presents the findings in a report and applies them to the drive.

Pier uses the Dokany driver to expose remote folders as Windows drives. File transfers use block-based caching, fetching the portions of files that are accessed and reusing cached data rather than downloading the same content again. Interrupted uploads and downloads can resume from the last transferred block when the connection returns; Nextcloud uploads use its chunked-upload protocol. A drive can also be put into offline mode to work with cached files. Changes are journaled and sent to the server later, while queued writes are completed after connectivity is restored.

The program runs as a Windows service, so mounted drive letters can remain available across reboots and to different user accounts. A tray icon provides per-drive controls for mounting, unmounting, synchronization and opening a location in Explorer. A command-line interface supports scripted workflows, and an automatic update feature is included. These tools suit users who regularly access remote project folders, keep cloud storage available as a drive, or need a network location for existing Windows applications and backup jobs.

Pier is freeware for up to five drives and includes all protocols and features, with an advertisement in the settings window. The Pro edition removes ads and allows unlimited drives; it is offered for USD 19 per year. It supports 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11, and Windows Server 2019 or later. Installation requires administrator rights; the setup installs Dokany if it is not already present. Portable ZIP and standalone MSI packages are also available.
