DNS Redirector applies domain-based rules to DNS requests across a network, without requiring software on each workstation. Administrators can block matching sites with a custom page, allow only selected domains, or redirect visitors to a welcome, login or terms page. It also forwards other DNS queries and can log visitors, blocked-site attempts or all activity. Designed for shared networks such as hotspots, schools, cafés and libraries.

DNS Redirector is a network DNS tool for administrators who need to control or redirect access to websites across a shared connection. It is intended for environments such as wireless hotspots, hotels, cafés, schools and libraries, but can also be used on other networks. Rather than requiring software to be installed on every workstation, it handles DNS requests centrally and applies rules based on domain names and configured keywords.
Administrators can match domain names against a keyword list and send requests for blocked sites to a page explaining the restriction. This can help limit access to peer-to-peer services, spyware or other unwanted software sources, streaming media, large downloads, online games, instant messaging, pornography or illegal content. Rules can also be configured as an allowlist, permitting only a selected set of sites. These controls can reduce unwanted traffic and make network access more appropriate for a particular venue.
The software also supports redirects for network notices and landing pages. A first-time visitor can be sent to a welcome, advertisement, login or terms-and-conditions page before browsing. Administrators can instead direct web traffic to an important notice during an emergency, network closure or maintenance period. Logging options record new visitors, attempted visits to blocked sites, or all program activity, providing a record of how the rules are being used.
DNS Redirector forwards queries that do not match its rules to an ISP DNS service or an internal DNS server. Because it operates at the network level and is not tied to particular access points, switches or routers, it can be used with varied network hardware. This makes it suitable for administrators managing shared public access, as well as organizations that want to apply consistent domain-based restrictions without configuring each client separately.
The program is open source and requires .NET Framework 4.6.1. Initial setup involves extracting the downloaded archive, then running the setup batch file as an administrator; the setup wizard guides first-time configuration. The archive may need to be unblocked in Windows file properties before extraction. When upgrading, existing INI configuration files should be kept rather than replaced. The supplied operating-system information includes Windows versions through Windows 10; Windows 11 compatibility is not established here.
